Ducati have upped the capacity of the existing 1098 model to 1198cc, which is the same as the existing 1098R.
In an attempt not to confuse the public, the new bike is called the 1198, while the 1098R is also an 1198cc (1198.4cc to be precise).
Perhaps Ducati originally thought that the Flammini brothers would be more inclined to let the 1098R race in WSB if they thought it was only 100cc's bigger than the Japanese competitors.
In any event, the increased capacity will be welcomed by the public, as there is apparently no substitute for cubic centimetres.
